Cleaning windows is an art. Knowing how to clean a window, means having streak free glass to look out of and on a sunny day, this is important, as any proud home owner knows. We know how to keep our houses clean, so when it comes to the windows on a property, you need to learn the easiest way to keep them looking brilliant.

The first thing you need are the right tools, so here's a list of essential ones:

  • A squeegee
  • A scrubbing wand
  • A scraper
  • Lint free towels

Having the right tools is half the battle, but you need to make sure your window cleaning equipment is in good condition. This means the whole experience is actually more enjoyable, it makes the process of learning how to clean a window that much easier.

Next, you need to learn the technique of how to clean a window properly. This takes a little patience and a bit of practice, but the results are extremely rewarding.

Step One - Cleaning Dirty Windows

Very dirty windows may need a pre-wash, so you need to use your scrubber to soak the entire window. Next, using your squeegee remove all the dirty water. Once done, you can see if there is any damage on the windows, this gives you a good idea of how hard you can scrub them with your scraper.

Step Two – Scraping Windows

Wet your window and test out one corner with your scraper using a forward motion, and do this 3 to 4 times in the same place. If the effect sounds smooth, you know there's no chance of scratching the panes, so you can do the rest of the window by scraping towards the outside edge of the pane from the centre of it.

When the edges are done, start at the top towards the bottom in a straight pattern overlapping the area you scraped by a little each time. If your window dries out during the process, wet it again before continuing.

Step Three – How to Use Your Squeegee

Wipe your window from side to side with your squeegee, using wet and soapy water. Then take a lint free towel and wipe your window starting at the edge and work your way around the window.

Step Four – Wipe Edges

Once you've squeegeed off your window, the edges will need doing, this is known as detailing. You have to wipe off all the water from the edges to get that flawless look which means you've learnt how to clean a window like a professional.
